Visited the Charca de Suarez with friend Gerry Bennet who was finally back in Nerja after Covid 19 had kept him away for two years. We had fun watching a furtive Water Rail foraging on some flattened reeds on the wader pond. There was at least a pair of them as we saw another one dash across the pond, however this chap at the edge was closer so I tried to get a clear shot but frustratingly there always seemed to be some leaves partially obscuring the view. As we concentrated on the Rail I was surprised by a Common Redstart which flew in to the exact same spot as the larger bird, I managed to grab a couple of shots as evidence. This is not a species I normally associate with this wetland reserve so it was a new addition to my Charca list. The photo below of a Common Snipe was nice as they usually hang around in the grass or at least in some cover, but this one was out in the open for a change.
