Birds on a Wire
I passed the Emerald Pool and before too long caught just glimpse of my target bird, deep in the jungle in poor light and obscured by branches. So I continued up to the Blue pool, another attractive natural spring-fed pond in which bathing is forbidden.
I did pick up a huge White Bellied Sea Eagle at high altitude, a great sighting if not a good photo. Later I spotted another raptor over the hills on the Southern end of the Island, Blyth's Hawk Eagle which is another lifer. I suppose it could have been Wallace's Hawk Eagle, but I can't tell the difference & Wallace's is a real rarity, so go for the obvious. |
Brahminy Kites are resident on the Island and can be seen daily along the coast at the Southern end which is less developed and still has plenty of wooded high ground for roosting. My time with Louise, Wade and Arlo was eventually up, and I decided to spend a day in Krabbi on the mainland for a last bird quest before flying to Singapore for the long flight back home. I tried an early morning walk along the Krabbi Town Mangrove Walk, but apart from one Brown Winged Kingfisher saw nothing. The days of picking up Mangrove Pitta here are I believe long gone |
