

No man-made flying machine could ever match the prowess of this supreme aviator.

We took a ride out to Alhama de Granada on Saturday, our favourite place to see the Autumn leaves. Instead of walking the gorge, this time we decided to visit the area around hot springs of the Rio Alhama. It was delightful. The tree plantations were spectacular in various shades of gold and green, and the evening sun cast a fabulous light through the overhead canopy. ![]() On our way there we stopped off for a wander along the old railway track at Zafarraya. We spent some time watching the Crag Martins chasing each other through the tunnel and gambolling around the rock faces, obviously for the sheer joy of it. ![]() This bird is one of the most adept flyers out there. It has everything, speed, agility and amazing accuracy as it skims the rock surfaces with incredible skill. No man-made flying machine could ever match the prowess of this supreme aviator. ![]() They contort their compact, muscular bodies into any shape to facilitate their aerobatics. More flexible and powerful than swallows, other martins or even swifts they are often overlooked due to their plain appearance. They are however the most spectacular bird in flight. But you need quick eyes, they are a hard act to follow.
