Dragonflies are fascinating. They can be colourful, sleek, dainty, fierce, pretty, aggressive, ugly or beautiful. They feature some of the fastest and most skillful flying machines in the entire animal kingdom. People who share an interest in this amazing insect family are called Odontologists. I suppose I am something of an amateur odontologist as I enjoy finding, identifying and photographing them. My interest is more aesthetic than scientific as they are very photogenic. Consider this shot of a mating pair of Red Veined Darters for example, it has colour, form, composition and detail, a good photographic subject. I follow with a few more shots to showcase the elegance, colour and diversity of dragonflies.
