Butterflies are most people's favourite insect, I mean what's not to like? They add a dash of colour to the landscape, pretty patterns dancing in the air, harmless and beautiful, a welcome addition to anyone's garden. I enjoy creating photographic images of butterflies, bringing out their sometimes dazzling colours and intricate wing patterns. I also appreciate the incredible textures and mosaics displayed by some of the less brightly coloured species, they have a beauty all of their own, less conspicuous but just as aesthetically satisfying. I start below with a few of the brighter, almost ostentatious species, but gradually introduce some more subtly attractive ones. Like many of the best things in life one acquires a taste for the subtler beauty that lies beyond just the large brightly coloured varieties. All photographs taken in Andalucia, Spain.
